Obituary for Walter Golczewski Jr.

GOLCZEWSKI Jr., Walter Joseph (Walt), age 85, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 16, 2022 surrounded by his loving family. Walt was born in Paterson, NJ to Estelle and Walter Golczewski, and was a graduate of St. John’s Cathedral High School and Rutgers University where he majored in Accounting. He proudly served for four years in the U.S. Navy. Shortly after graduating from Rutgers, he established his own accounting and tax preparation business. He was a longtime resident of North Haledon and a parishioner of St. Paul R.C. Church for 53 years.

Walt’s greatest loves were his wife and family, and he was especially proud of his seven grandchildren. He was a talented bowler, a diehard Giants and Yankees fan, and an avid traveler. He loved to play a great game or three of Uno, making sure all were following the rules exactly as printed. Walt will be remembered always for his dry sense of humor that brightened so many gatherings with the laughter of all who were listening.

He leaves behind his loving wife of 59 years, Marie (nee Filippelli), sons Walter and Gregory (Nancy), and daughter Allison Passante (Kevin). He is also survived by his grandchildren Lindsey Gamble (Chad), Daniel Golczewski, Nicholas Passante, Julia Passante, Lauren Golczewski, and Alexander Passante, and many dear friends and extended family members. He was predeceased by his parents, Estelle and Walter; his sisters Theresa, Rosalie, and Marylou Golczewski; and his in-laws Margaret & Ernest Filippelli; his brother-in-law Ernie Filippelli; and his grandson, Matthew Golczewski.

Family and friends are invited to join the family at the Vander Platt-Vermeulen Memorial Home, 530 High Mountain Rd., Franklin Lakes, NJ on Monday, December 19, 2022 from 3 - 7 PM. A Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, December 20, 2022 at 10 AM at St. Paul’s R.C. Church, 286 Haledon Ave., Prospect Park, NJ. Entombment will follow the Mass at Maryrest Mausoleum, 770 Darlington Avenue, Mahwah, NJ.
