Robert Haitmanek, a veteran, skilled craftsman, lifelong explorer and hobbyist —died at his home in Kunkletown, PA on Monday May 18th, 2020. Born in 1953 to a hard-working Hungarian-American family, Robert spent the better part of his life perfecting his skills as a machinist and operating engineer with the International Union of Operating Engineers & Local 68. Throughout his life, his skills and curiosities propelled him to connect with people around the globe long before the internet with amateur radio, build and re-assemble museum-quality firearms from the most enduring conflicts of the twentieth century, and most recently to travel across multiple continents honing his craft of photography. With this life, Robert leaves a legacy for learning, compassion, and connecting with others.

We will plan a memorial and celebration of Robert’s life when the circumstances allow later this year.

Robert is survived by two daughters and sons-in law, Michele & Christopher Wispelwey and Christine & Brian Lezette; four grandchildren, Cameron & Adelaida and Charleigh & Grant; a brother and sister-in law, Richard & Diane Haitmanek; and a countless number of extended loving family members and friends. He was 67.
