Obituary for Olga Yagodzinski (Swytak)

Olga Yagodzinski (nee Swytak), 93, on December 30, 2018 of Hawthorne, NJ. Olga was the daughter of the late Andrew and Pazia Swytak (nee Prystajko). Born on the lower East Side of Manhattan, she was a member of St. George’s Ukrainian Catholic Church and an active member of their 150 strong choir, which performed throughout Manhattan venues to include St. Patrick’s Cathedral and bond rallies in Times Square. As dance was another one of her loves from her formative years and into her early 20’s, she was also member of the Houston Street Dance Troupe, where she quickly earned the nickname “Peanut”, as she was the youngest and most petite of the large ensemble throughout her many years with them.

She moved to Hawthorne in 1948 where she lived for the past 70 years and quickly learned about flowering plants, bushes and trees and everything else green that she only knew about through her earlier years’ Sunday outings to Central Park with her family so that she and her husband could plant them on their “country” property in NJ soon after marriage. After raising her three children, Olga performed office work for many years at Englehardt Adjustment Services Inc. and then at B.H. Krueger of Fair Lawn until her retirement in 1981. She was a parishioner of St. Anthony’s RC Church of Hawthorne and a member of the Rosary Society.

Beloved wife of the late John Yagodzinski (1998). Devoted mother of Denise Yagodzinski of Hawthorne, Daniel Yagodzinski and his wife Laura of Suffern, NY and Lawrence Yagodzinski and his wife Elizabeth of Harrogate, Tennessee. Loving grandmother of Erika Eschberger and Lara, Christopher and Katie Yagodzinski.

The family will receive family and friends at the Vander Plaat – Vermeulen Memorial Home, 530 High Mountain Road, Franklin Lakes, NJ on Thursday from 4-8 PM, Funeral Mass on Friday at 11:00 AM at St. Anthony’s, 276 Diamond Bridge Road, Hawthorne and Interment immediately following the mass at Valleau
