SZESCIUK, Mathilde (nee Sanger) 90, of Hawthorne passed away on April 20, 2021. Born in Munich, Germany to Josef and Theresa (nee Sanger) Ketzler, and formerly of North Haledon, she has been a resident of Van Dyk Park Place Assisted Living in Hawthorne for the last two years. Mathilde and her husband Wiktor came from Germany to live in the U.S. with their 5-year-old son Albert in 1953 to begin a new life here. Mathilde had a passion for gardening and was also known to be an excellent cook. Before her retirement, Mathilde worked in quality control in Buter, NJ. She was a parishioner of St. Paul’s RC Church in Prospect Park.

Mathilde was predeceased by her husband Wiktor in 2001, and also by her son Albert Szesciuk in 2014. She leaves behind her loving daughter, Lori Bemb and her husband Joachim of Frankfurt, Germany, her adored grandchildren, Katharina Bemb, Anna Bemb, Laura Bemb, and Kim Smokowski with family and her daughter-in-law Kathleen Szesciuk. She also leaves behind 3 sisters in Germany, and several nieces and nephews in Germany and the United States.

Funeral service will take place on Monday, April 26 at 12:00 PM at the Vander Plaat-Vermeulen Memorial Home, 530 High Mountain Road, Franklin Lakes, NJ. Interment to follow at Laurel Grove Memorial Park, Totowa.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in honor of Dr. Eileen O’Reilly’s Research , c/o Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, Office of Development, 1275 York Avenue, New York, NY 10065, in memory of Mathilde and Albert Szesciuk.
