Obituary for Martina Hagedorn (Dykstra)

Martina “Teen” Hagedorn (nee Dykstra) passed away on March 28, 2020, at the age of 78.

Martina grew up in North Haledon, New Jersey. She attended Eastern Christian schools where she graduated in 1960. She graduated from William Paterson University in 1964 where she majored in Elementary Education. It was at the Christian schools that she first met and subsequently married Donald, her beloved husband of 46 years. They eventually settled in Mahwah, New Jersey where she became a full-time mother to their three children. Donald preceded her in death in 2011 as did her mother Adrianna, her father Frank and her sister Henrietta.
In her early years she was an elementary school teacher at the Christian school her children attended in Succasunna, NJ. Later on in life Martina was a volunteer at the Snoep Winkle in the Christian Health Care Center in Wyckoff and eventually became a resident at the Longview apartments.

Martina loved Jesus, her family, and had a special love of nature especially on Cape Cod where she and Don had built their retirement home. Teen was a gifted social person who loved to talk with everyone. She exhibited love, compassion, kindness and a genuine caring for all she encountered. Her laughter and the twinkle in her eye will be greatly missed by all. She will be most remembered for her ability to see value in people and her willingness to listen, comfort, and provide wisdom. Teen deeply valued her family and wholeheartedly loved her Saviour Jesus Christ.

Martina is survived by her three children. Her son, Dr. David William Hagedorn and his wife Nicole of Jacksonville, NC, her daughter Donna Beth Bellavia and her husband Chris of Mahwah, NJ, and her son Daniel James Hagedorn of Charleston, SC. She is also survived by her six granddaughters: Courtney Renee Bellavia, Amanda Beth Bellavia, Hannah Elizabeth Bellavia of Mahwah, NJ, Morgan Kate Hagedorn, Claire Riley Hagedorn, and Esther Payal Hagedorn of Jacksonville, NC. Additionally she is survived by her brother George Dykstra and his wife Annamae of Chichester, NH, and her sister-in-law Ruth Knyfd Wynbeek. Though the Lord Jesus Christ has called her home, the memories she leaves her friends and family are full of joy, happiness, and hope.

Due to the pandemic of COVID-19 and the concern for the health of everyone, no visiting hours or services will be held at this time. A memorial service will be held at a future date. Private interment will take place at the George Washington Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Eastern Christian School Association, Development Office, 50 Oakwood Ave., North Haledon, NJ or to the Christian Health Care Center, Development Office, 301 Sicomac Ave., Wyckoff, NJ 07481.
