Obituary for Margaret Percarpio (Masterson)

Margaret (Peggy) Masterson Percarpio entered into heavenly rest on December 25, 2021. She was the wife of the late Edward P. Percarpio, mother of Edward R. Percarpio (wife Claire), Mary Ann Percarpio Jones (husband Brad), and Lillian Percarpio Hughes (husband Richard). She was the grandmother of 9- Ed and Emerald Percarpio, Megan Collins (and husband Steven), Matthew, Kelly, and Billy Jones, and Emily, Katie, and Isobel Hughes, and great-grandmother to Sadie Collins and her soon-to-be-born sister.
Always first in her life were her children and grandchildren. She loved playing cards and games, watching every Disney movie as soon as it came out, enjoying every holiday, and accompanying the families on so many vacations. She rejoiced with all their achievements, babysat, helped with homework, and attended countless plays, athletic competitions, and recitals. Nana was always there for everyone, their encourager, helper, and cheerleader.
Her next love was for teaching, and she taught for 38 years in the Haledon Public Schools. Peggy began her career part-time in 1966 and quickly was hired full-time, teaching 3rd grade, 5th grade, and 6th grade. Her specialty was Science; she made sure that her classroom was equipped with microscopes, slides, and tools, and she lovingly cared for many classroom pets, including frogs, large tanks of fish, and various other animals. For years even after she retired, her students re-connected with her, telling her how she challenged them, helped them, and cared for them. Teaching was her passion, and her students were her love.
Until a few years ago, Peggy was active in her community. She loved organizing lunches for Haledon teacher retirees, participating in Aqua Fitness classes at the Wayne YMCA, and enjoying fun times with her friends and relatives. She enjoyed traveling to England often, going down the shore, and going out to eat and shop with her close friend and sister-in-law, Lillian Iannacone. She will be missed by all.

The Percarpio family welcomes family and friends on Wednesday from 4:00-800PM at the Vander Plaat-Vermeulen Memorial Home, 530 High Mountain Road, Franklin Lakes, NJ. Funeral Mass on Thursday at 10:00AM at St Anthony’s RC Church, 276 Diamond Bridge Road, Hawthorne, NJ. Interment to follow at Fair Lawn Memorial Cemetery.
