Lydia Tinsay Jalbuena, 98, of Franklin Lakes, NJ, passed away on April 20, 2022, after a 98-year long battle with aging.
Lydia was born on August 6, 1923, to Jose Tinsay and Imelda Montinola in Iloilo City, Philippines. After graduating from Assumption High School, she met Joseph A. Jalbuena and they wed in 1945, going on to have two children, Joseph and Maria Cristina.
Lydia was a world class bridge player, teaming with her daughter to represent the Philippines in tournaments around the world, winning the Far East Ladies Bridge Championship in 1981. Lydia moved to the United States in 1984 and began a career in financial services that lasted nearly two decades. After retirement, she spent her time with her family and friends, tending to her orchids and playing competitive bridge online.
Lydia was predeceased by her parents, husband and brothers Rodolfo, Hernan and Antonio. She is survived by her younger brother, Luis; her children; her grandchildren, Michelle Meer, Joanna Rodriguez and Juan Miguel del Gallego; and her great-grandchildren, Lamberto, Enrique, Emmanuel, Annika, Arianna, Andres, Sebastian, Calvin and Weston.
A funeral mass will be held at 10am on April 23 at St. Elizabeth Church in Wyckoff, NJ.
