Obituary for Lidya Portvliet (Kimmich)

Lidya (Kimmich) Portvliet, 82, on September 16, 2020 of North Haledon, NJ. Born in Monte Carlo, Argentina in 1937 to the late Karl and Elsa Kimmich. Lidya immigrated to the United States in 1970. Before moving to North Haledon in 1998, she had lived in Elmwood Park. Lydia began her career as a registered nurse in Argentina and continued as a nurse in the United States. She worked at Saddle Brook Hospital where she met her husband, the late Rudy Portvliet who pre-deceased her in 2000 after 30 years of marriage. Prior to her retirement in 2004, she worked as an OR nurse at Valley Hospital in Ridgewood for 30 years. Lidya was a member of the Rockpoint Community Church in North Haledon, NJ.

Lidya was the beloved mother of Robert Portvliet of Wantage, NJ. Lidya had 8 siblings, Alfredo, Margarita, Federico, Matilde, Hedwig, Elsa, Ricardo and Eugenio.

Family will receive friends at the Vander Plaat – Vermeulen Memorial Home, 530 High Mountain Road, Franklin Lakes, NJ on Saturday from 10 – 12:00PM followed by a service at 12:00PM. Interment to follow at George Washington Memorial Paramus, NJ.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Lidya’s memory to the Rockpoint Community Church (Faith Promise Fund), 400 North Haledon Ave., North Haledon, NJ
