Obituary

Obituary for Joseph Bajzath

Joseph G. Bajzath age 94, passed peacefully at home in his sleep with his Valentine of 72 years by his side, loving wife Anne Bajzath (nee Prokopets). Joseph was born in Czechoslovakia on February 14, 1926 and immigrated to the United States when he was eight years old. His family settled in NYC. He was passionate about his love of family and country. He voluntarily enlisted and served in the US Navy. He was assigned to the USS Sherburne, an attack transport ship, and saw active duty in the Pacific.

Upon returning from war, he met and married the love of his life. In 1963 he moved his family to New Jersey. Until his retirement, most of his career was with Kearfott-Singer in NJ where he worked as an aeronautical engineer.

In earlier years, he was a drummer with the Skyliners Drum and Bugle Corp in NYC. He participated in league bowling and was always an avid all-around sports enthusiast, both on the field and in the stands. Football (Jets) and baseball (Mets) were his favorites. He was a Jets’ Season Ticket Holder since 1966 and enjoyed attending games over the years with friends and family.

He belonged to Saint Paul's Roman Catholic Church where he was an usher and a member of the Knights of Columbus. Being a devote Catholic, reading his Bible and reciting the rosary were both very important to him and something he did on a regular basis.

Known as Pop Pop to those closest to him, he was happiest helping and spending time with his family and friends, and cherished any time spent with them. A kind and compassionate man who was loved and respected by all who knew him.

He is survived by his three daughters, Jo'Anne Brina and husband Peter J. Brina, Esq., Margaret Murray and husband Paul Murray, Ellen Damato and husband Thomas Damato, as well as his five grandchildren, Scott Bajzath and wife Elyse Bajzath, Joseph Bajzath, DC and wife Jaclyn Bajzath, Edward Bajzath, Deanna Damato and Taylor Damato, two great-grandsons Joseph and Kenny Bajzath, nephew John Bajzath and niece Maryann Palaschak. He is predeceased by his parents Mary and Joseph Bajzath, and brother John and his wife Margaret Bajzath.

It is with great sadness that his family shares the news of his passing. He is already terribly missed, but they are comforted knowing that Daddy (Pop Pop) is blessed with eternal life.

A memorial funeral Mass, to which all are invited, will be held at Saint Paul's RC Church, 286 Haledon Avenue, Prospect Park, NJ on Saturday, October 24th at 11AM. A private interment will follow at the Brigadier General William C. Memorial Cemetery in Wrightstown, NJ.

For additional information contact a family member or Vander Plaat-Vermeulen Memorial Home, 530 High Mountain Road, Franklin Lakes, NJ (www.vpmemorial.com) or call 201-891-4770.

I am deeply saddened by the passing of your precious Dad & husband.
I did not know this marvelous gentleman, but I was very much aware of his soft spoken temperament, great kindness & much love for his most beautiful family.
I know your depth of devastation is beyond description & the void within each of you surpasses words.
Mr. Bajzath shall be greatly missed, until each of you all meet again.

Our hearts break for all of you! Joe was such a wonderful man full of charism, charm and endless optimism. We loved him so much! As we reminisce of the times spent together celebrating milestones, weddings, birthdays one thing is constant is Joe's abundent love for his family, his beautiful smile and his wonderful laugh. We fondly remember speaking with him about our homeland, Slovakia. He had such a vivid memory. We are grieving with you the loss of an incredible man but has left in all of us a piece of himself. His love, his faith and his family were most important to him and in them he leaves behind an eternal legancy. Rest in peace Joe. Odpočívaj v pokoji!
With deepest sympathies,
Emil, Emilia & Sabina
