COLON, Jose “Joe”, 82 of Haledon, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Monday, January 31, 2022. Joe was born in Orocovis, Puerto Rico on November 1, 1939, to Carmelo and Maria Luisa (nee Santos) Colon. He moved to the U.S. with his family in 1951. Formerly of Paterson, he has resided in Haledon for 37 years. Joe was predeceased by his loving wife Aracelia Colon (nee Freytes) in 2018. Before his retirement, Joe was a Police Sergeant with the Paterson Police Department for 25 years.

Loving father of Diana Colon-Scialla and her husband David. Beloved grandfather of Alana, Alexa, Ryan, Amanda. Cherished brother of Neftali, Carlos, and Louis Colon. He also leaves behind his faithful dogs, Simi, Mia, and Lola (aka “White Lightening”).

Family and friends may visit the Colon family on Friday, February 4, 2022, from 4-7 PM at the Vander Plaat-Vermeulen Memorial Home, 530 High Mountain Avenue, Franklin Lakes, NJ. Funeral will depart at 10:00am on Saturday, February 5, 2022, from the funeral home, for a 10:30am funeral mass at St. Gerard Majella RC Church, 501 West Broadway, Paterson, NJ. Interment will follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Totowa.
