Obituary for John F. Dougherty

John (Jack) F. Dougherty passed away unexpectedly from natural causes on Sunday, October 2, 2022. It is a loss beyond words. Jack was a tremendous life force filled with passion for his work and love for his family. We will miss his incredible ideas, innovation and humor.

Jack Dougherty founded DFP Foundation Products, LLC in 1984 after resigning from executive vice president at APF. He has served as president of both Advance Pile Equipment and Monotube Pile Corporation.
He also helped form the Midlantic Pile Corporation of York, Pa. His contribution to the industry's evolution has resulted in multiple patents, including H-pile point designs and the TAPERTUBE® pile.

DFP Foundation Products, LLC manufactures the TAPERTUBE® pile and driving points for pipe and H-piles and splicing devices for pipe and H-pile. DFP also manufactures cast steel timber pile points and timber pile UP-LIFT anchors. The TAPERTUBE® pile is a tapered pile that carries its load primarily in friction between the steel surface and the surrounding soil, and that settlement can only occur if the taper displaces additional soil. TAPERTUBE® has become a significant product line for DFP and is used on many public and private projects.

He also founded Deep Foundations Institute (DFI), the not-for-profit association of contractors, engineers, manufacturers, suppliers, owners and academia. Dougherty organized and chaired the steering committee that founded DFI, and he served as the institute's first president and on the Board of Trustees from 1976 to 1996. He also received the institute's Distinguished Service Award in 1997. His involvement with PDCA began soon after resigning from DFI around 2000.

He was predeceased by his wife, Barbara Campbell Dougherty and is survived by his 12 children, Barbara Petinella, Joanne Dougherty, John Dougherty, Marian Gulbrandsen, James Dougherty Young and his husband Keith Dougherty Young, Suzanne Gallup and her husband Joseph Gallup, Patricia Dougherty, Deborah Dougherty, Janet Dougherty, Joseph Dougherty and his wife Kelly Dougherty, Samantha Corujo, Jennifer Harmon and her husband Greg Harmon, along with his 17 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.

Funeral mass to be held on Thursday, October 6, 2022, at 10 AM at Our Lady of Perpetual Help RC Church, 25 Purdue Avenue, Oakland, NJ. Interment to follow at Christ the King Cemetery, Franklin Lakes.
