Obituary for John J. DeSalvo

DeSALVO, John Joseph “Jack”, 92 of Riverdale and formerly of Franklin Lakes and Paramus, passed away on Wednesday, January 18, 2023. He was born in the Bronx, NY to Joseph A. and Theresa (Caserta) DeSalvo. His grandparents on both sides emigrated to the US from Andretta, Italy in the latter part of the 19th century. After graduating high school John served his country proudly in the US Army during the Korean War. After this John went on to become the Director of Mail Processing at the U.S. Postal Service Sectional Center in Hackensack before retiring in 1985. After his retirement he acquired a degree in accounting and went on to work as an accountant for Oradell Animal Hospital.

He was an amateur musician having taken up alto saxophone as a teenager and later guitar and mandolin. He and his wife were parishioners at Most Blessed Sacrament Church in Franklin Lakes.

John was predeceased by his loving wife Kathleen (Ziola) in 2013. Beloved father of John “Jack” DeSalvo and his wife Maria of Riverdale. He was predeceased by his son James DeSalvo in 2019. Devoted father-in-law to Catherine DeSalvo. Loving grandfather to John, Olivia, Richard, Rebecca, and James DeSalvo. Beloved brother of the late Camille DeVito. Adored brother-in-law of Barbara Jean Zeale Invidiata. Family meant everything to John, and he will be greatly missed by so many who knew and loved him.

Friends may visit the DeSalvo family on Sunday, January 22, 2023, from 2-6 PM at the Vander Plaat-Vermeulen Memorial Home, 530 High Mountain Road, Franklin Lakes, NJ. Funeral Mass to be held on Monday, January 23, 2023, at 9:30 AM at Our Lady of Perpetual Help RC Church, 25 Purdue Avenue, Oakland, NJ.
