Obituary for James Woudenberg

Jim Woudenberg, 72, passed away peacefully on June 8, 2022, at the Valley Hospital with his wife and sons by his side.
Jim was born January 22, 1950, to Dorothy and Marinus Woudenberg, and grew up in Prospect Park. Jim graduated from Eastern Christian High School and Michigan Technological University with an honors degree in Forestry.
Jim was a lifetime member of Unity CRC in Prospect Park where he served as deacon, elder, and cadet leader.
In 1973, Jim started his business, Woudenberg Landscaping, and while he retired in 2018, he continued to help out as needed. Jim especially enjoyed working with flowers and creating beautiful gardens. In spring, there would be a parade of cars driving by his spectacular tulip displays.
In 1979, Jim married Ruth, the love of his life. They moved to Hawthorne in 1981, where they raised their two sons. Jim was a hardworking and devoted husband who cared for his family as well as his gardens.
He will be sadly missed and forever loved by his wife Ruth, and sons Matthew Woudenberg of Ringwood, NJ, and Bryan Woudenberg of West Milford, NJ. He is also survived by his brother Mark Woudenberg, Tom Woudenberg and his wife Michele, sister-in-law Sue Ellen Jeltes, and brother-in-law David Van Harken; as well as his nieces and nephews who loved their Uncle Jim.
Jim and Ruth shared a love of the outdoors and travel, and together explored many national parks and made wonderful memories together. They also travelled to the Netherlands where Jim fulfilled a dream to see the beautiful Keukenhof Gardens.
For the past 11 years, Jim became a snowbird and traveled to their condo in Bokeelia, Florida. While there, Jim loved biking, boating, fishing, and had another large circle of friends. The past two years, Jim served as Landscape Director for Captain’s Harbor Condo Association.
Jim will always be remembered for his outgoing personality, friendliness, helpfulness, and especially that great smile!
Friends and family may visit on Saturday, June 11, 2022, from 4 – 8 PM at the Vander Plaat-Vermeulen Memorial Home, 530 High Mountain Road, Franklin Lakes, NJ. Memorial Service to be held on Sunday, June 12, 2022, at 2 PM at Unity Christian Reformed Church, 339 N. 11th Street, Prospect Park, NJ.
In lieu of flowers or memorial donations, Jim would want you to spend time outdoors with your loved ones. Please think of him and smile. 😊
