Obituary for James A Aupperlee

AUPPERLEE, James A., age 73, of Wyckoff, went home to be with His Lord and Savior on Sunday, March 26. He was born in Paterson to George and Anne Aupperlee and grew up in Prospect Park. He attended Eastern Christian High School. Because of Jim’s passion for people, he built deep relationships in each of his professions from being an optician to kitchen/bath design and installation to owning his sales business. Everywhere he went, Jim made friends of all ages, whether driving a van to pick up high-schoolers in Hoboken or being the “Furniture Man” at Ditto. He was a member of Rockpoint Community Church, where he was active and involved in many areas of the church community. Whether it was being a Deacon or a Sunday School teacher and Superintendent or a youth group leader or the chair of the Fellowship Committee, Jim served with faithfulness. Jim was a loving and compassionate person, who liked to joke around and always put the needs of others before himself. He loved birdwatching, woodworking, and history, but his greatest passion was for his family and his faith.

Jim is survived by his loving wife, Ruth (Joustra) Aupperlee of Wyckoff. They enjoyed 49 years of marriage together. Beloved father of Rebecca Lapinsky and her husband Mike, Ryan Aupperlee and his wife Becca Johnson, and Kathryn Aupperlee and her partner Brian Vogel. Cherished grandfather to Emma, Dean, Gretchen, Jordan, and Chelsea. Loving brother of the late Rev. George Aupperlee, his wife Connie, Tom and Marcia Aupperlee, and Don and Jeany Aupperlee and brother-in-law to Bernie Joustra, Wietse and Kathryn Posthumus, and Tannette Botbyl. Also survived by an abundance of nieces and nephews.

Family and friends may visit the Aupperlee family on April 14 from 6:00 to 8:00pm at the Vander Plaat-Vermeulen Memorial Home, 530 High Mountain Road, Franklin Lakes, NJ. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on April 15 at 11:30am at Rockpoint Community Church, 400 North Haledon Ave., North Haledon, NJ.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jim’s memory to the Eastern Christian School Association, 50 Oakwood Avenue, North Haledon, NJ 07508 or visit www.easternchristian.org, or The Valley Hospital, 223 N. Van Dien Avenue, Ridgewood, NJ 07450, or visit www.valleyhospitalfoundation.org.
