Obituary for Jacoba Deykers (DeHaas)

Deykers, Jacoba (nee DeHaas), 87, went home to be with her Lord on March 1, 2021 at her home in North Haledon. Born in Rotterdam, Holland on July 12, 1933 to Peter and Cornelia (nee Vanderwoort) DeHaas, she came to live in the U.S. 66 years ago. She has lived in North Haledon for over 50 years. She was a dedicated parishioner of St. Paul’s RC Church in Prospect Park for many years. Jacoba enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Jacoba loved knitting, especially baby outfits; gardening, she took great liking to her tulips, casino bus trips with her lady friends, and being at the beach with family at Wildwood.

Jacoba was predeceased by her husband, Johannes (John) Deykers in 1982. She is survived by her loving children, her daughter Johanna Devine and her husband Bruce of North Haledon, and her son, John Deykers of North Haledon and his girlfriend Denise Hernandez. She is also survived by her adoring grandchildren, Richard Devine and wife Dayna of Wanaque, Kevin Devine and his wife Jennifer of Las Vegas, NV, and Alyssa Palomba and her husband Christian of North Haledon. She also leaves behind her adored great-grandchildren, Aidan, Gavin, and Mason.

Friends and family may visit the Deykers family on Thursday from 9-10 AM at the Vander Plaat-Vermeulen Memorial Home, 530 High Mountain Road, Franklin Lakes, NJ. Funeral mass will be held at St. Paul’s RC Church, 286 Haledon Avenue, Prospect Park on Thursday at 10:30 AM. Burial to follow at Fair Lawn Memorial Cemetery, 22-21 Maple Avenue, Fair Lawn.
