Obituary for Irene E. Hemstead (Micks)
Irene E Hemstead (nee Micks), 91, of North Haledon on July 15, 2022, following a short illness.
Irene was born in Dickerson, PA on June 8, 1931, to Martin and Frederica Micks. She was a member of Bethlehem Evangelical Lutheran Church in Ridgewood. Prior to her retirement, Irene was a secretary for many years at Andersen & Holland and before that at the ECCR, but her biggest pride was her family and being a mother and grandmother.
Irene was predeceased by her husband William Hemstead (1988).
Devoted mother of William Hemstead and his wife Kathy and Cheryl Schielke and her husband Kevin. Loving grandmother of 5 girls that she adored: Heather Schielke and her fiancé Damien Devitt, Kimberly and her husband Nick Pollaro, Cristen and her husband Robert Berry, Laura Hemstead, and Becky Hemstead.
Irene was also predeceased by all 12 of her siblings, siblings in law, and leaves behind many loved nieces and nephews. Irene was blessed to have her friend and neighbor Betty Gerdenits for over 50 years!
Mom always put her family first. She loved to cook and decorate for the holidays. An avid bird watcher, she loved her red cardinals and her deer. Often you would sit in her living room and count how many cardinal figurines she had on the first floor of her house, as I recall the number was 89! She loved her collectibles ranging from Hummels to Delft glass and most everything in between.
A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, July 19th at 10:45 AM at Laurel Grove Cemetery, Totowa, NJ.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made in her name to the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Ridgewood, NJ.
