Obituary for Harry James Clancy, Jr.

Dr. Harry James “Jim” Clancy Jr., 92, most recently of Highlands Ranch, Colorado, passed away peacefully on February 24, 2023. Born on January 3, 1931, in Charleston, West Virginia, Jim was one of three children raised by Harry and Loraine Clancy in Syracuse, New York. Jim married Nancy Fairclough in 1967 and had their son Harry James Clancy, III, in 1968. Jim helped to raise Nancy’s sons August, Arnold, Don, and Karl Kattermann.

Jim was always proud of his service in the United States Air Force as a Medical Technician, where he was stationed in Newfoundland. Following his time with the USAF, Jim went on to receive a master’s degree from Syracuse University and his Doctor of Dental Surgery from Fairleigh Dickinson University in 1960. Upon graduation from Dental School, Jim started his dental practice in Franklin Lakes, New Jersey, where he practiced until his retirement in 1998. Jim’s practice was a family affair, as Nancy was always in the office warmly greeting patients. In 1998 Jim and Nancy retired to Peru, Vermont, where Jim emersed himself in photography and golf at the Manchester Country Club.

Retirement came with the unfortunate timing of the passing of the love of his life, Nancy Clancy, in October 1998. As he grieved Nancy’s loss, Jim traveled the country, including two extended trips to Alaska. Fortunately for Jim, love struck twice when he met Anne Angeloni, who he married in 2002. Jim and Anne enjoyed retirement together in Beach Haven, New Jersey until Anne’s passing in 2009. In 2013, Jim moved to Colorado to be closer to his son Jim and his wife Kate, where he settled at Wind Crest, a retirement community in Highlands Ranch.

Jim’s life is best defined by his persistent positive outlook, his sense of humor, and his never-ending desire to help others. Jim is survived by his son, Jim Clancy (Kate) of Eagle, Colorado, his sister Judy Thomas (Mike) of Chattanooga, Tennessee, and his seven grandchildren, Hannah, Paige, Kim, AJ, Diane, Gus, and Kayla.

A Memorial Service will be held on March 11, 2023, at the Vander Plaat Vermeulen Funeral Home at 530 High Mountain Road in Franklin Lakes, New Jersey, at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Jim’s honor to the Food Bank of the Rockies at www.foodbankrockies.com
