Obituary for Genevieve K. LaRobardier (Krause)

LaROBARDIER, Genevieve K. (nee Krause) 94 of Keswick, VA, passed away on Friday, July 16, 2021. She was born in New York to the late Allan and Genevieve (nee Ferrington). She is formerly of Franklin Lakes and Closter, NJ before moving to Keswick, Virginia in 2020. She resided many years in Montreal, Canada as a child where she learned to speak French fluently. She was a parishioner of Most Blessed Sacrament RC Church in Franklin Lakes, NJ.

Genevieve graduated from Barnard College in 1948. After college she worked with the National Foreign Trade Council. In 1966, she obtained a Master’s degree summa cum laude from Fairleigh Dickinson University in language teaching and joined the faculty in its program for French language teachers. In 1983, she earned her law degree from Rutgers Law School. She had an accomplished career for over thirty years in private practice in the fields of commercial litigation and franchise, intellectual property, and international law.

Before her retirement in 2015, Genevieve was a partner with the law firm of Bressler, Amery and Ross in Florham Park. She was a member of the Bars of the States of New York and New Jersey, and admitted to practice before the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey, the U.S. District Court of Appeals for the Second and Third Circuits, and the United States Supreme Court. She served as Chair of the International Law and Organizations Section of the New Jersey State Bar Association as well as the Section’s First Vice Chair of the International Litigation and Arbitration Committee. For her pivotal role in the drafting and enactment of New Jersey’s Foreign Country Money Judgment Recognition Act in 1997, Genevieve was awarded the New Jersey State Bar’s Distinguished Legislative Service Award. She was a contributing author to the New Jersey Federal Civil Practice Handbook and annual editions of New Jersey Federal Civil Procedure. She also served on the Board of the Transatlantic Business Council and as General Counsel of the Woman’s Automotive Association International which awarded her its first International Allegiance Award.

Genevieve was predeceased by her husband Lamont in 2008. Loving mother to five children: the late Lamont, Jr. and his wife JoAnn of East Nassau, NY, Allan and his wife Ophela of Gaffney, NC, Suzanne of Morris Plains, NJ, Marie LaRobardier and her husband David Sheffler of Keswick, VA, and Genevieve Snyder and her husband Duane of Burt, NY. Loving grandmother to nine grandchildren: Jason, Michael, Nicole, Allan, Dustin, Evan, Amanda, Ryan, and her grandchild in heaven, Shane. Loving great-grandmother to seven great grandchildren: Adeline, Daxon, Dylan, Ethan, Hayden, Logan, and Ryder.

Visitation is on Friday, July 23, 2021, from 10:00-11:30AM at the Vander Plaat-Vermeulen Memorial Home, 530 High Mountain Road, Franklin Lakes. Funeral Mass to follow at 12:00 PM at St. Paul RC Church, 200 Wyckoff Avenue, Ramsey, NJ. Interment to follow at Christ the King Cemetery, Franklin Lakes.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Genevieve’s memory to her parish, Most Blessed Sacrament in Franklin Lakes for the rebuilding of the church destroyed by fire.
