Obituary for Gale Guido (Bentley)

GUIDO, Gale (Bentley), age 79, of North Haledon, passed away on Tuesday, May 16, 2023. Gale was born in Paterson, NJ to Frederick and Evelyn (Tuinstra) Bentley. She grew up in Haledon and graduated from Manchester Regional High School in 1961, as part of their first graduating class. She has been a resident of North Haledon for over 50 years. It was in Haledon where she met the love of her life, Salvatore (Sam) Guido. As fate would have it, they met by a blue mailbox, where she was mailing out her high school graduation thank you cards. Two short years later in 1963, they were married. Gale and Sam raised their 3 children together in North Haledon. Gale poured her love and guidance into her children and the care of their home while they were younger as well as volunteering to work in their school and as a Girl Scout leader.
Gale went back to college years later after her children were grown and graduated from William Paterson University with a degree in Sociology. She enjoyed working at Hackensack Hospital with Tomorrow’s Children Foundation helping children with cancer and their families. She later worked for the American Greetings Corporation, Aiello’s Fruit Baskets in Prospect Park, and finally in sales for V&S Floor Covering in Midland Park. Gale loved decorating her home, and her home would often be decorated for every holiday and season. She was a loving mother and grandmother; she adored her grandchildren and spending time with them as much as possible.

Gale was predeceased by her devoted husband of almost 60 years, Salvatore (Sam) Guido in June of 2022. She was a beloved mother of Gina Schillaci and her husband Nicholas of Mahwah, Sam Guido and his wife Amy of North Haledon, and Nicole Adoni and her husband Michael of Mahwah. She was a wonderful grandmother of Ryan, Daniella, Eric, Brittney, Ashley, Andrew, Sammy, and Bentley. She also leaves behind her beloved sister, Dawn Seigal, and many nieces and nephews. Gale’s greatest passion was for her family and home.

Family and friends may visit the Guido family on Thursday, May 18, 2023, from 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM at the Vander Plaat-Vermeulen Memorial Home, 530 High Mountain Road, Franklin Lakes. A funeral service will be held on Friday, May 19, 2023, at 10:30 AM at the funeral home. Interment to follow at Christ the King Cemetery in Franklin Lakes.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Gale’s memory to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation at www.cff.org, a charity that was very near and dear to her heart.
