Obituary for Frank M. Conte

Conte, Frank Mario Jr., 92 of Pompton Plains, passed away on Wednesday, August 4, 2021. Born in Brooklyn, NY to Frank and Theresa (nee Galgano) Conte, Sr., he had lived in Brooklyn, then Queens before moving to Franklin Lakes, where he resided for 20 years before moving to Pompton Plains two years ago.

Frank was self-employed as an insurance broker at his firm, Conte Porrino Insurance Agency in Greenwich Village, NYC which he ran until his retirement in 2003. Frank was a dedicated member of the Knights of Columbus for 75 years where he attained the rank of Grand Knight. He was a parishioner of Most Blessed Sacrament Church in Franklin Lakes, NJ and Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Brooklyn, NY. Frank’s spirit of volunteerism began as a young boy where he served his church as an altar boy throughout his youth. Frank is past President of the Bay Ridge Young Republicans, he was an advance man for Governor Nelson Rockefeller, Past President of the Greenwich Village Chamber of Commerce, former member of the board of directors of The Children’s Aid Society Greenwich Village NY, and the Greenwich Village Outdoor Art Exhibition, and a member of the Lions Club of NJ. Throughout his life he enjoyed the company of family and friends. Frank was a skilled wood carver leaving many beautiful pieces to be enjoyed by the family for generations to come.

Frank is survived by his beloved wife, Sina (nee Nazzaro) Conte of Pompton Plains, and his loving son and daughter in law, Frank Michael Conte and Petra of Franklin Lakes and grandsons, Michael, Peter, and Frank Conte. He was predeceased by his daughter Mary Lou who passed away in 1981. He also leaves behind his sister Amalia Bonanno of Brooklyn, NY. As well as his nephew John Bonanno, and niece Francine Moscato her husband Richard and his great nephews Anthony and Joseph.

The family will receive friends from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM on Friday, August 6, 2021, at the Vander Plaat-Vermeulen Memorial Home, 530 High Mountain Road, Franklin Lakes, NJ. Funeral mass will be held Saturday, August 7 at 10:30 AM at Our Lady of Guadalupe RC Church, 7201 15th Avenue, Brooklyn, NY. Interment to follow at St. John’s Cemetery in Queens.
