WISSING, Edna (nee Gisner), 92 of Franklin Lakes, NJ, went home to be with her Lord on May 20, 2022. Edna was born in New Milford, NJ on May 18, 1930, to Edson Gisner and Louise (Klinger) Gisner. She was a secretary at the Bergen County Engineering Department where she met her beloved husband, William L. Wissing. Bill was an avid skier and ski jumper. Edna continued in her secretarial ambition at Stranahan and Foil Rolling Company in Hackensack as an executive secretary. They quickly continued their friendship while he attended NYU. Bill completed his civil engineering degree upon which he asked Edna’s hand in marriage. They lived in River Vale, NJ until 1965 when they moved to Franklin Lakes.
Edna was very active in the Girl Scouts of America for over 15 years as a Brownie and Girl Scout leader. Later, when Bill retired from Chief Engineer for McBride Agency, Bill and Edna started their own business, Wissing Engineering Associates, with Edna running the clerical duties. As time went by, they retired to Long Beach Island, NJ and Gulfport, FL to share time with friends and family. Edna was secretary to the North Jersey Symphony Group for several years. While in Florida, she was also an active member and supporter of the Ruth Eckhard Performing Arts Center in Clearwater, FL.
Edna is survived by her devoted son William E. Wissing of Franklin Lakes, NJ, daughter Sharon Romary and her husband Ron of Butler, NJ, and her loving grandchildren Suzanne Romary of Quincy, MA, and Matthew Romary of Maybrook, NY.
Friends and family may visit on Wednesday, June 1, 2022, from 4 – 7 PM at the Vander Plaat-Vermeulen Memorial Home, 530 High Mountain Road, Franklin Lakes, NJ. Funeral mass to be held on Thursday, June 2, 2022, at 10 AM at St. Elizabeth’s RC Church, 700 Wyckoff Avenue, Wyckoff, NJ. Interment to follow at Christ the King Cemetery in Franklin Lakes.
