Clarence “Bake” Baker – Web-Site Obituary
Clarence Baker, 94, of North Haledon went to his eternal home on January 6, 2021. Known as Bake to most, Pop to his grandchildren and friend to everyone he met. He was born in Paramus the tenth of eleven children, he lived with his bride on Miedama Place in Midland Park for 66 years before moving to North Haledon 5 years ago. He served honorably in the United States Army during WW II, in France, Belgium and Germany as a bazooka specialist with the 78th Infantry “Lightning” Division. He received the Purple Heart along with several campaign ribbons and medals. He was an owner and driver for the Hawthorne Laundry, the custodian for Midland Park Christian Reformed Church, and upon retirement he found his true calling as a crossing guard in front of Coolidge School in Wyckoff, a job he enjoyed for 14 years. He was a member of the Midland Park Christian Reformed Church of Midland Park, serving several terms as a deacon, he was a member of the Midland Park Ambulance Corp for over 30 years and a member of VFW Post 7086 serving many years as it’s chaplain..
Clarence was the devoted husband of the late Alice Kruithof Baker (2016). Beloved father of David Baker and his wife Paula of Grand Haven, Michigian, Richard Baker and his wife Cynthia of Land-O-Lakes, Florida, Joan Rozema and her husband Gary of Midland Park, Larry Baker and his wife Joan of Visalia, California, Garry Baker and his wife Janet of Midland Park, Jane Wondergem of Mahwah, Alison Leentjes and her husband Brian of Chester, New York and the late Robert Baker and his wife Anne of Australia. Loving grandfather of 23 grandchildren, 24 great – grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild.
He loved hugs, and we will certainly miss his.
The family will have a private service and interment at George Washington Memorial Park, Paramus, New Jersey.
