Bertram Martin Koenig, 59, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on February 22, 2021. Born in Englewood on April 16, 1961 to Marion and Bertram Koenig; “Marty” lived in Mahwah before moving to Bloomingdale 21 years ago. He graduated from Valparaiso University in 1983, earning his bachelor’s degree in Finance. Marty was a Financial Analyst with Stifel, Nicolaus, & Company in Ramsey. Marty loved his Lord and was very active in his church, The Chapel in Lincoln Park, NJ. He would be described as having a servant’s heart and enjoyed being active in the Christian Service Brigade, Battle Ground men’s ministry, Strength for the Journey Bible Study and others. Marty loved hiking, biking and actively enjoying God’s outdoor creation exemplified by his participation and achieving the coveted spartan trifecta. Most importantly he loved his family.
He is survived by his loving wife Karen Hertel-Koenig and son Kevin Alfred Hertel Koenig of Bloomingdale. his loving mother Marion “Midge” (nee Rehrauer) Koenig of Mahwah, brother Mark (Kim) Koenig of Jefferson Township, PA, sisters Kathy Koenig of Mahwah, and Karin Koenig of Charlotte, NC, brothers-in-law Jeffery (Dena) Hertel of Franklin Lakes and James (Maureen) of Oakland, nieces Kristin and Katelyn Hertel and nephew Eric Hertel. Marty was predeceased by his father, Bertram Koenig in 1986. Friends and family may visit the Koenig family on Friday from 2-4 PM and 6-8:30 PM at the Vander Plaat-Vermeulen Memorial Home, 530 High Mountain Road, Franklin Lakes, NJ. A service celebrating Marty’s life will be held on Saturday at 3:00pm at The Chapel, 264 Jacksonville Road, Lincoln Park, NJ. A small intimate graveside service will be held at George Washington Memorial Park, Paramus, NJ.
