Obituary for Bernadine M. Ferrante (Sherlock)

Bernadine “Bernie” Ferrante (Sherlock) passed peacefully in her sleep on October 2 at her home in North Haledon, NJ. Bernadine was born on April 23, 1943 to Steven and Bernadine Sherlock. She grew up in NYC and Saddle Brook, NJ, the oldest child of four. On August 2, 1969 she married Joseph Ferrante and they moved to Garfield, NJ before living in North Haledon for the last 50 years.
Together they have three children, Jim Ferrante, married to Lisa Ferrante, Michelle Ferrante-Melone, married to Ray Melone and Darlene Ferrante engaged to Andrew Capuano and four beautiful grandchildren, Talia (20), Cameron (18), Christian (16), and Corinne (10). Bernadine is survived by her three siblings, Robert Sherlock and his wife Kay, Steven Sherlock and his late wife, Maria and Susan Costanzo and her husband Charles and her sister-in-law, Grace Krause and her late husband Robert and their families, and her long time friend, Carol Wolsko.
Bernie was a loving wife and devoted mom and Grammy. She was very proud of her husband, Joe, and the family they created. She loved to be with her grandchildren and she was a wonderful cook, who enjoyed having her cooking bring family together. Bernie worked hard her whole life in her home, but also as a beloved waitress at the Arena Diner in Hackensack, as well as a hairdresser. In her later years she loved shopping, playing bingo and the times she spent at casinos playing the penny slots. Her presence in her family’s lives will be tremendously missed.
A private viewing, church mass, and burial will be held for family and coordinated by Vander Plaat - Vermeulen Memorial Home in Franklin Lakes, NJ. Bernie’s final resting place will be at Christ King Cemetery in Franklin Lakes, NJ.
In lieu of flowers, Bernie’s family is requesting donations in her honor to her favorite charity, Saint Jude Children’s Research Hospital. To make a donation, kindly search St. Jude Gift Fund by clicking the link
